Management

The roles and operations of the SLP structure are summarised in below sections and Figure 1 illustrates the SLP directorate preliminary structure. In Figure 1, the SLP directorate structure levels is displayed in the three phases i.e. strategic, tactical and operational. The key personnel who will be driving the SLP activities are highlighted in green. The current structure will be reviewed periodically in response to anticipated growth and expansion. For the period 1 July 2022 to 31 December 2022, all the responsibilities inherent in the directorate will be executed by the acting director and acting deputy director.

DVC AAR – The DVC AAR is the custodian of Learning and Teaching and Research. The activities of the directorate are primarily teaching and learning related and as such should fall under the oversight of the office of DVC AAR.

SENATE SHORT LEARNING PROGRAMME COMMITTEE (SSLPC) - The SSLPC will provides policy and strategic direction on the short learning programme activities at WSU. Considers, reviews, and makes recommendations to the Senate on the short learning programme activities and staff, participants, programmes, programme access, quality enhancement, participant retention, development, and exit. Also oversees policy formulation on short learning programmes. The composition of the SSLPC will be as follows:

  • The membership of the SSLPC shall comprise the following:
  • Vice Chancellor (Ex Officio)
  • Deputy Vice Chancellor: Academic Affairs and Research (Chairperson) and Directorate for Short Learning Programmes
  • Senior Director: Research and Innovation
  • Senior Director: Learning and Teaching Development
  • Deans
  • Chairs of Faculty Short Learning Programme Committee’s
  • One additional representative per campus nominated by Campus Rectors
  • Director: Institutional Research and Planning
  • Executive Director: Student Affairs
  • Up to three (3) representatives of existing CIBs.
  • Recommendations on matters deliberated upon by the Committee shall proceed directly to Senate for approval, and not go through SENEX or any other institutional committee.

 

Director – The WSU-DSLP is part of the academic structure of the WSU and will reports to the DVC: AAR. The administration of all SLP’s will be centralised in the WSU-DSLP. The specific functions involves evaluating the submission for new SLPs offerings within WSU and to make recommendations to SSLPC regarding approval. The director will oversee the quality assurance of the registration process in respect of SLPs within WSU. Responsible not limited to updating, evaluating, and making recommendations to the Senate regarding changes to the rules, procedures, submission forms and relevant policies in respect of SLPs. The focus will also provide policy and strategic direction on the short learning programme activities at WSU. Considers, reviews, and makes recommendations to the Senate on the short learning programme activities and staff, participants, programmes, programme access, quality enhancement, participant retention, development, and exit. Deputy Director SLPThe deputy director of the SLP directorate will deal with the oversight of all tactical and operational activities. The deputy director will be responsible in providing decisions to the day- to-day operations. 

Quality, Compliance and Certification AssessorThis person will be responsible for quality assessment of the SLP and CIB related activities. He/she will be working closely with the divisional structures to ensure compliance issues with short course and postgraduate programmes that might be also offered under CIBs. This individual will maintain a healthy relationship with CHE and internal quality assurance department i.e. HEMIS to ensure adherence to the registration policy and certification related procedures.

SLP ManagerThe manager of SLP will oversight the operational activities of SLP. He/she will be responsible to execute tasks related to project management, finance and operational duties. Most importantly, the manager should successfully manage the operational budget of SLPs.

SLP CoordinatorThe coordinator will be instrument individual in appointing the unit heads from respective WSU departments to lead SLP offering with departments and faculties. He/she will also coordinate special projects that will be offered by CIBs. He/she will be also responsible for ensuring that tasks or events are carried out successfully by working with all relevant role-players to bring together resources, information, and services. The role-players should include internal and external partners i.e. government, local communities, business owners, international partners etc.

Senior Administratorthe senior administrator will ensure the day to day running of the programme and reporting. He/she will also be responsible to oversee, direct, and coordinate the work of lower-level staff. Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Participate in the development and administration of department goals, objectives, and procedures. Prepare and administer large program budgets. Prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports.

The faculties are expected to play a significant role in ensuring that unit head that represent them to the SLP directorate are subjects’ experts and senior in their lecturing roles. Unit heads appointments will be decided by the faculties working hand in hand with SLP manager, coordinator and administrator.
