Welcome

Welcome to the Walter Sisulu University Short Learning Programmes (SLP) directorate. The SLP directorate is in line with the WSU vision, mission and strategy for transformation mandate. In pursuit of excellence to achieve its mandate, the directorate has centralized under a single directorate all the SLP offered at WSU and provides an operational and governance framework for all WSU CIBs. The WSU SLP directorate was set up in recognition that the Eastern Cape Province remains faced with many socio-economic challenges in making an effective contribution to the South African economy.

The province estimated contribution towards the national Gross Domestic Product (GPD) is generally low and also suffers from high unemployment rate as compared to other provinces. The City of Mthatha, where the main campus of Walter Sisulu University (WSU) is based, also is lagging behind with low skilled people and is classified as poor. Thus, the establishment of the centralized SLPs is to advance the WSU vision “to be a leading African comprehensive university focusing on innovative educational, research and community partnership programs that are responsive to local, regional, and national development priorities, and cognizant of continental and international imperatives”.
